Walk Report

Calder Vale , Hazelhurst Fell and Bleasdale 1st March 2025

Last week a party of 6 Lancaster Ramblers walked in the Forest of Bowland area, starting from the small secluded village of Calder Vale. 

They left the village  following the River Calder up a steep woodland path to St John’s Church and school.

The route then took them over fields to Stang Yule where they followed an uphill peaty path by the side of Oakenclough Fell. They then followed a stony track towards Hazelhurst Fell taking a slight detour to the trig point on the summit. From here they had  wonderful views of all the Bowland fells, Morecambe Bay, Blackpool Tower and even the Welsh mountains in the far distance. They continued uphill to Luddicks Fell passing the memorial to those airmen who lost their lives in crashes in the local area during and just after WW2.

After lunch in a scenic spot overlooking Parlick and Fairsnape fells , they watched numerous paragliders sailing overhead in the spring sunshine.

The group continued downhill towards Bleasdale, the final stop being the splendid St Eadmers church .

Finally the group made its way over tracks and fields back to Calder Vale to reach the cars after a very pleasant day’s walking.
